BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – A total of 80 students from the Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering major at the Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) visited the Directorate General of Survey and Mapping of Land and Space (Ditjen SPPR), Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning, National Land Affairs Agency (ATR/BPN) on Wednesday, February 27, 2025.

Andrew Ringgas, President of IMG-ITB, stated that the visit aimed to foster synergy between academia and government institutions in the fields of land and space survey and mapping, particularly in supporting land mapping policies in Indonesia.

The three directors from the Directorate of Land and Space Basic Survey and Mapping (PPDPR), Directorate of Cadastral Survey and Mapping, and Directorate of Thematic Survey and Mapping are all alumni of ITB's Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering major. They presented materials and engaged in discussions with participants on current issues related to land management and spatial planning in Indonesia.

One of the topics discussed was the coastal fence in Tangerang, which attracted significant attention in January. This coastal fence was believed to have been created due to the privatization of coastal areas through Right to Build Certificate (SHGB) and Right of Ownership Certificate (SHM) by certain individuals, similar to cases of land mafia activity.

"Land mafia individuals will use all available means, including leveraging Licensed Surveyor Services (JSB). Ultimately, it comes down to how trustworthy the JSB is in performing their duties," said Yoga Suwarna, Director of the Directorate of Land and Space Basic Survey and Mapping. He added that there was no difference between the practices of JSBs and State Civil Apparatus (ASN) at BPN. JSB aim to accelerate administrative processes on the ground and operate based on public requests.

In addition to discussing current land ownership issues, the session also covered Ditjen SPPR's priorities in land and space mapping, including the development of three-dimensional (3D) cadastres and public space ownership.

After the discussion, participants had the opportunity to take an office tour to learn more about the technologies and activities carried out by the three directorates within Ditjen SPPR. The tour included exposure to measurement and positioning technologies, map printing technologies, data centers, and an overview of mapping technology development at the Surveying Tools Museum, Ditjen SPPR.
