BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Three students from Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) secured first place in the Geonest Week 2025 competition. They are Adrian Ksatria Boediman, Matthew Adi, and Raynald Ariyaputera, who competed as Team GoldSchmidt.
Geonest Week 2025 is a competition for final-year geology students that aims to improve the skills of geology students across Indonesia in conducting exploration or outcrop identification through geological mapping.
This year’s competition was organized by three companies: PT Geofix Indonesia, PT Minera Nusa Drillindo, and PT Tekminera Nuestra Tierragua. It consisted of three rounds. In the first round, participants worked as a team to complete dozens of multiple-choice questions related to exploration geology, mine geology, and geometallurgy under a limited time in an online format.
The second round was a case study round, with problems in the same three fields as the first round. Teams were required to present oral answers to geological case studies. The top five teams advancing from this round qualified for the third round, which involved mapping geological outcrops in Subang, West Java.
The ITB team from the Geological Engineering study program successfully outperformed other teams and was awarded first place at the final ceremony held at Universitas Padjadjaran on February 14, 2025.

Using data collected in the field, the team produced a factual geological map. "We integrated field data such as descriptions, lithology, alteration, and mineralization into a factual map to more easily identify the geological features," explained Madi.
During the mapping process, the three students identified 19 outcrops. The dominant lithology found was volcanic breccia, with fault structures observed within these rock formations. Based on the collected data, the team concluded that the site contained gold mineralization of the low-sulfidation epithermal type.
