BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) held the Eid al-Fitr 1446 Hijri prayer at the Campus Center Field of the Ganesha Campus on Monday, March 31, 2025. The event, organized in collaboration with the Eid prayer committee from P3RI Salman Mosque ITB, proceeded in a solemn and orderly manner. The Eid sermon was delivered by Professor Dr. Ir. H. Ichsan Setya Putra, a prominent lecturer from the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at ITB.

From as early as 5:00 AM Western Indonesia Time (WIB), worshippers began arriving at the ITB campus grounds. Upon entering through the main gate, they were warmly welcomed by volunteers who distributed sermon materials and information on how attendees could make charitable endowments (waqf).

The prayer commenced at 6:30 AM WIB and was followed by a sermon titled “Integrating Sustainability into the Muslim Way of Life According to the Quran and Sunnah,” delivered by Prof. Ichsan. In his sermon, he emphasized that Islam should not be viewed merely as a religion of ritual worship, but as a comprehensive way of life that guides humanity in maintaining balance and sustainability in their existence on Earth.

“Nowadays, the concept of sustainability is increasingly popular,” he stated. “It is important for us to understand how sustainability can be embraced as part of a Muslim's lifestyle, as guided by the Quran and the Sunnah.”

He further explained that the Islamic perspective on sustainability extends far beyond environmental conservation. It encompasses a deeply rooted spiritual dimension. Islam promotes harmony between humankind and nature as an expression of responsibility entrusted by Allah. This view aligns with three core Islamic principles: the principle of trust (amanah), the principle of balance (tawazun), and the principle of benefit (maslahat).

“In Islam, sustainability involves two essential aspects: refraining from causing harm to the Earth through excessive exploitation, and ensuring the continuity of life for future generations,” he added.

The organization of the Eid prayer at the ITB Ganesha Campus received a warm and positive response from both students and members of the surrounding community, particularly for students who could not return to their hometowns for the holiday. Yafi Amri, an ITB student, shared that holding the Eid prayer on campus allowed him to still feel the spirit and warmth of Eid al-Fitr, even while away from his family and hometown.
