BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) held its 66th Dies Natalis (Anniversary) Open Session on Monday (March 3, 2025), at the Aula Barat of the Ganesha Campus. During the event, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Chairman of ITB’s Board of Trustees, delivered a reflective speech on ITB’s long and meaningful journey, now marking its 66th year of contribution to the nation.

According to him, ITB, as an institution founded on the grand aspiration of advancing the nation’s intellectual capacity, is not merely a collection of classic architectural buildings nestled beneath the leafy canopy of Ganesa Street. Rather, it is a radiant intellectual space—a beacon that preserves the legacy of the nation’s thinkers and leaders whose knowledge and vision have illuminated not only Indonesia but also Asia and the global stage.

He emphasized that ITB upholds a visionary mission as outlined in its Master Development Plan (RENIP) and Strategic Plan (RENSTRA), aiming to evolve into a globally renowned university—one that ranks among the top 150 higher education institutions in the world. To realize this ambitious vision, ITB adheres to three core pillars: producing world-class graduates, fostering a culture of scientific excellence, and delivering tangible contributions to society.

“First and foremost, we do not merely produce graduates. We nurture and shape leaders—individuals of exceptional character and capability, respected and recognized in their fields. They may become outstanding lecturers, brilliant scientists, visionary architects, transformative CEOs, impactful ministers, inspiring artists, extraordinary sculptors, or even the most outstanding directors of horror films,” he remarked with enthusiasm.

ITB is envisioned to become a multidisciplinary innovation hub that generates real, impactful solutions for the community. Research at ITB should not only be outstanding in academic publication but must also translate into practical applications that significantly benefit real-world conditions. Collaborations with industry, government institutions, and international organizations are essential in reinforcing globally competitive research and innovation.

He further stated that ITB remains fully committed to continuously generating ideas, concepts, and scholarly work that elevate the intellectual well-being and prosperity of the broader community. ITB’s existence is not solely defined by producing high-quality graduates or academic papers, but also by its ability to deliver concrete solutions to pressing societal, economic, and environmental challenges faced by Indonesia.

He called upon the entire ITB academic community—faculty, administrative staff, students, alumni, institutional partners, and all individuals who have contributed to the university’s journey—to walk forward in unity.

“Let us ignite the spirit. Let us strengthen our resolve. Let us ensure that ITB is not only remembered in history, but that ITB never ceases to create history. Happy 66th Dies Natalis, Institut Teknologi Bandung,” he concluded.
