BANDUNG, itb.ac.id – Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) organized a Ramadan lecture featuring the Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Bandung, Prof. Dr. K.H. Miftah Faridl, on Friday (March 21, 2025). Held at the West Hall of ITB, the event aimed to enhance faith and piety during Ramadan, particularly in its last ten blessed days.

In his opening remarks, ITB's Vice Rector for Communication, Partnerships, Alumni Relations, and Administration, Dr. Andryanto Rikrik Kusmara, S.Sn., M.Sn., emphasized the importance of utilizing Ramadan to strengthen faith and foster a sense of family within the ITB community.

On this occasion, Prof. Miftah Faridl, who also serves as the Advisor of YPM Salman ITB, delivered a sermon titled "Attaining the Degree of Taqwa in the Last 10 Days of Ramadan." He reminded that Ramadan is a month full of blessings and special virtues. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once said that if Muslims knew the virtues of Ramadan, they would wish to live in it perpetually.

He explained that Ramadan is a month of achievements, not a time for idleness. He cited Islamic history, noting that many significant victories occurred during Ramadan, such as the Battle of Badr, the conquest of Mecca, and Salahuddin Al-Ayyubi's triumph in the Crusades. Additionally, many great scholarly works were produced in Ramadan, including "Al-Umm" by Imam Shafi'i and "Ihya Ulumuddin" by Al-Ghazali.

Prof. Miftah emphasized the importance of enhancing the quality of fasting during the last ten days of Ramadan. Fasting is not merely about abstaining from food and drink but should lead to positive personal transformation. Quality fasting fosters taqwa (piety), reflected in patience, emotional control, and a willingness to forgive others.

He elaborated that individuals with taqwa exhibit characteristics such as emotional restraint, magnanimity, reliability in keeping promises, and readiness to forgive others' mistakes. They are also consistently aware of their own faults and promptly seek forgiveness from Allah.

Furthermore, he reminded that fasting should have a positive impact on daily life. A proper fast brings one closer to Allah, enhances the quality of worship, and improves character. He also encouraged Muslims to increase night prayers, recite the Quran, and give charity during Ramadan.
